How to Optimize Performance in your Hard Disk Drive?

Nothing in the world irritates you more than the unreasonably slow computer while using it. You might put a cool face but I suppose, you sure want to punch your monitor or thrash it against the wall(but please don’t do that). There are many things you can do on your own (no experts needed).

One of those things are Disk Defragmenter.

To run Disk Defragmenter follow these steps:

  1. Click Start button
  2. Click All Programs
  3. Click Accessories
  4. Click System Tools
  5. Click Disc Defragmenter
  6. Now you can choose to Defragment individual volumes

Using Disk Defragmenter is done in two parts. First you must click Analyze Disk to Analyze and determine the level of fragmentation. Now Disk Defragmenter will ask to defragment the Disk, if that’s what suggested based on current disc usage. You can Click view report to see the detailed report or else move on to second part.
Secondly, Click Defragment to begin the defragmentation.

To run Disk Defragmenter from command prompt (command line), type defrag followed by volume or drive designator. For example defrag c:

Disk Defragmenter will then analyze the volume and start defragmenting. If you want to analyze first then use the –a parameter For example defrag c: -a.
If you want to use force deframgmentation , use –f parameter, for example defrag c: -f

Disk Defragmenter is a utility in Microsoft Windows designed to increase access speed by rearranging files stored on a disk. It checks for and corrects fragmentation problem on disks.
On FAT, FAT 32 and NTFS volumes, files, folders, and related disk structures are stored in clusters. Only one file can be written into a particular cluster. The default cluster size for NTFS is 4KB. If the file being written is more than 4KB then , multiple clusters are used. If there are more gaps between clusters,then the disk controller seeks clusters, which reduces read/write time.
